Respite / School Holiday Respite

Jewel Human Services, Inc offers two different and unique Respite Services. The standard Respite (In-Home Respite) is provided in home and offers relief to the families of individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities. This program is based on the parents schedule and the area of greatest  need. We provide our own highly trained staff that will adhere to the needs of the families.

Secondly, we offer School Holiday Respite, which runs in conjunction with NYC public School holidays. Four times during the year, kids ages 6-11 and 12-17 will have the opportunity to join our fun Respite program as we embark on various activities. Including movies, museum, in house arts and crafts and MORE. we offer pick up and drop offs, so you never have to worry.

There are no fees associated with any of our programs. it is completely free funded through medicaid under OPWDD guidelines. All we need is your child and your support to make these programs a success.

In-Home Respite service provides a temporary relief from daily care giving responsibilities. We are aware that Care-givers face challenges with caring for loved ones with developmental disabilities; they tend to get overwhelmed and need a break. Effective, sustainable care giving depends on meeting the caregiver’s own need for nurture, reassurance, support and periodic respite. .

The focus of the program is to provide much needed relief to families and caregivers of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Our trained counselors work with these children and adults with disabilities, providing them with socialization and skill building activities.

Jewel Human Services In-Home Respite service provides a reprieve for the Care-giver, while our Professional Respite Staff engages the individual in productive activities, which will enhance skills building needed for independent living.

Respite service enhances the quality of life for the entire family. Our Respite service strives to create an interactive and safe environment.

Eligibility: Our programs are open to all adults with the developmental disabilities, including those with intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorders, and neurological impairments.

Cost to You: Our services are provided at no cost to Medicaid eligible individuals. This program is regulated and partially funded by OPWDD.

Location and Time: In-Home Respite will be carried out in the individual’s home during the hours that are most convenient to the individual or their family.
